RESEARCH ON MICHAEL GONDRY

- He grew up in Versailles with a family who was very influenced by pop music.

- As a young boy, Gondry wanted to be a painter or inventor, so in the 80s he entered in an art school in Paris so he could develop his graphic skills.

- He met some friends there and together they formed a band which Gondry was the drummer for as well as directing their video clips. One of the videos was on MTV and Bjork saw this and contacted him to make the music video for 'Human Behaviour'.

- Their partnership was famous and he directed 5 other videos by Bjork, with huge budgets. This led to commissions from other artists in the world such as Massive Attack.

- Gondry is the most highly-awarded director for a one-off commercial too.

- His trade mark was surreal settings and visual effects.

- He was originally known for commercial and music videos, so he directed 'Drugstore' for Levi's, his music video for Bjork, 'Human Behaviour', won almost every existing music video award.

- He has also collaborated with Daft Punk, The White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Paul McCartney and many more.

    Needs more info, Helen, such as what sort of surreal settings, and which videos he did with Daft Punk, The White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Paul McCartney etc. Why were they innovative? What did they look like?

TEXTUAL ANALYSIS - Kendrick Lamar's 'Alright' Music Video (cinematography, editing, sound and mise-en-scene) Firstly, the music video uses a variety of techniques in order to convey Lamar's ideas about the treatment and life of African Americans in this period of time. FINAL EXPLANATION OF VIDEO - (statement of intent)

My objective for the music video I have created is ultimately to raise awareness for the struggles that immigrants / refugees / foreigners / those of an ethnic minority may experience when arriving to not only the UK, but anywhere where they may feel excluded. This is a protest for an issue that is not widely spoken about which is why it is so important to make it relevant, especially in these uncertain times when we should all be supporting each other. Firstly, the main character is clearly the artist herself who comes from Eastern Europe and is arriving to the UK (London) and is in search of a new life, or opportunity. However, when she arrives to the UK, things become a lot less exciting and she starts to feel out of touch. This is signified by her attempt to find a job and she is instantly rejected, followed by her struggles with money.   - My production studio name will be 'Taylored Productions' as a way of using my personal surname and interweaving it with the word 'tailored' to convey this idea of premium music that is tailored for it's audience. - The bold sans-serif font has been chosen to set a strong, premium tone and help reinforce the brand image. - The simplistic image connotes a youthful attitude that the brand is in touch with, bearing in mind the target audience of young 16-20 year olds. - This is a universal musical image that can be recognised across most ages, however the simplistic design that is similar to the logo of Apple iTunes is something that a socially-conscious 16-20 year old would be in tune with.
