- He grew up in Versailles with a family who was very influenced by pop music.
- As a young boy, Gondry wanted to be a painter or inventor, so in the 80s he entered in an art school in Paris so he could develop his graphic skills.
- He met some friends there and together they formed a band which Gondry was the drummer for as well as directing their video clips. One of the videos was on MTV and Bjork saw this and contacted him to make the music video for 'Human Behaviour'.
- Their partnership was famous and he directed 5 other videos by Bjork, with huge budgets. This led to commissions from other artists in the world such as Massive Attack.
- Gondry is the most highly-awarded director for a one-off commercial too.
