- Activists are a major new player in the Leading Edge – on the front line at protests and driving the politicisation of UK Youth.
Activists are passionate about inequality and social change, so are taking to the streets and social media to protest, campaign, squat and sit-in. Especially relevant in 2015 with the General Election looming, Activists are aspirational across the map and admired for their passion and dedication to the cause – be that racial equality, housing, feminism, the environment.
Clothes
- I would imagine my audience member to be dressed in a very 'non-mainstream' outfit.
- What I mean by this is that the audience member does not conform with what both genders typically wear nowadays.
- This would match perfectly with the 'Scenester' that is described on 'Uk Tribes'.
- SCENESTER: Replacing the recently demoted Hipsters – the scenesters encapsulate everything that Hipsterdom has failed to in recent years.
Setting themselves apart by creating new trends by co-opting fashion and music from accross the Tribal map and blending it with their own individual attitudes. Ever difficult to pin down, they move at lightning speed through youth culture – moving onto whats ‘next’ before it has a chance to become ‘now’.
- An example of this is wearing clothes such as loose fitting, urban, perhaps with a big statement.
- A lot of activists tend to wear clothing that displays their views graphically with either text or pictures.
Food
- In terms of the type of food my perfect audience member would eat, it would be certain foods that do not contribute to pollution. For example, certain fruits or coffee that are exported from abroad.
- My audience member would also probably be vegetarian or vegan as they may not agree with the ethics of slaughtering animals.
All of these characteristics would make up the perfect audience member for this particular song as the lyrics protest about a problem in the world that is not widely thought or talked about enough. These urban, non-mainstream activists would conform to this group as they are always trying to be out of the ordinary and protest about problems that need more support.
Great insights, Helen! Ms Cope
