Statement of intent draft - WEEK 6

Statement of Intent Draft

The song I have picked for my music video is 'Paper Planes' by M.I.A. I believe that the song as a whole would perfectly target the audience of socially-conscious, 16-25, middle to upmarket demographic. This is because the original song was released in 2009, however has had a large popularity since then. The genre is pop which is a major attractor for the age group of 16-25. It has managed to keep its popularity throughout the years by being used in films to further reach a wider audience. Socially-conscious audience members would be aware of problems going on around the world and so a protest that is not widely thought about would be what this segment of the audience  look for. The artist denounces violence and the stereotypical view of immigrants as well as her own victimisation of racial profiling as a British Artist with a Sri Lankan descent. The target audience would empathise with this and may feel a sense of belonging if they have experienced such problems that is so significant in the world, however not a hot topic.

In my music video, I will create a narrative that will be based on the story of one person, who has been the victim of racial profiling and is experiencing life as an immigrant in Britain. This will include the location of London, which has various locations within that can capture moments to display the narrative effectively. This will include places such as the central London, major landmarks as well as areas located in the North or South of London where there are quieter and perhaps more discreet roads. I would also like to display these areas with people of an ethnic background as there is a contrast between how many people of the ethnic minority live in the outskirts of London and the central part.
